About EverestBaseCamp.com

An independent guide to one extraordinary walk, written for people who want to do it safely and well.

EverestBaseCamp.com exists to help trekkers plan the journey to Everest Base Camp properly: realistic itineraries, honest advice on altitude and weather, clear information on permits and guides, and a short list of tours worth booking.

What we cover

  • The classic 12–14 day itinerary and its variants — Gokyo, Three Passes, shorter Everest View treks.
  • How to get from Kathmandu to Lukla, including the Ramechhap diversion and road alternatives.
  • Permits, the licensed-guide rule, insurance, costs and packing.
  • Helicopter tours and Everest mountain flights for travellers without two weeks to spare.
  • Where to stay in Kathmandu and the Khumbu.

How we research

We check fees, rules, flight arrangements and prices against official sources, operators and booking platforms, and review them regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel scores from Trip.com. Where figures move around — lodge prices, flight fares, the exact enforcement of the guide rule — we give ranges and say so, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Nothing on this site replaces medical advice. Talk to a doctor about altitude before you go, and follow your guide’s judgement on the trail.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. There is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Fees change, rules evolve and lodges change hands. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us on the contact page — we would rather fix it than defend it.
