The Best Everest Base Camp Tours

Sixteen treks, flights and helicopter tours, ranked by what they actually deliver.

We rank these on four things: how sensibly the itinerary handles altitude, the quality and licensing of the guiding, value for money once you count what is included, and what real travellers say after the fact. Ratings and review counts come straight from GetYourGuide and are checked regularly.

We earn a commission if you book through the links below, at no extra cost to you. That has no bearing on the order: the cheapest option on this page is not the one that pays us best, and a trek that skips acclimatisation days will never top this list.

How we rank these tours

We look at four things, in this order:

  • Acclimatisation. A Base Camp itinerary without rest days at Namche and Dingboche (or equivalent) is a false economy.
  • Guiding. A licensed guide is now part of the rules, and a good one is the difference between a tough trek and a safe one.
  • Real value. Lukla flights, permits, hotels and porters change the true price enormously.
  • What reviewers say afterwards. We read the three-star reviews, not just the five-star ones.
Our honest advice: if you can spare 14 days plus one or two buffer days, book a full guided trek from Kathmandu with Lukla flights included. If you cannot, a helicopter tour or an Everest mountain flight is a far better experience than squeezing Base Camp into too few days.

Good to know

Choosing a tour

What is the best Everest Base Camp tour for first-time trekkers?

A 12–14 day guided trek from Kathmandu with Lukla flights and two acclimatisation days included. It removes the logistics and gives you the best chance of reaching Base Camp comfortably.

Is a nine- or ten-day Everest Base Camp trek safe?

Shorter itineraries usually cut acclimatisation or add a helicopter return, which raises the risk of altitude sickness. They can suit fit trekkers with previous altitude experience; everyone else should allow 12 days or more from Lukla.

Do these tours include permits?

Most full treks include the Sagarmatha National Park entry fee and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee — but not all. Check the inclusions list on each listing.

Are tours available in languages other than English?

Many operators offer guides who speak Chinese, Japanese, German, French or Spanish on request. Check the language options on the booking page, or message the operator before you confirm.
